We are sad that Thomas could not join us today; hopefully he will feel better and meet us in Amsterdam. Ben, Josh, and I had a relaxing final day in the city. We took the metro to Place Monge and spent some time wandering around a market. We bought some picnic items and a handmade toy as a souvenir for Ben. Then we continued our food shopping on Rue Mouffetard. Our next stop was a bench in Jardin du Luxembourg where we enjoyed a picnic of marinated calamari, baguette, goat cheeses, salami, and treats while sitting across from a young French couple who were obviously breaking up. It almost made me cry. We decided that we did not want to get on another metro to go to the St. Martin Canal so we stayed at the gardens, walking and resting as we pleased. We ran into the Spanish couple from Le Restaurant (yesterday's lunch)--they have the same guidebook as we do. And we let Ben spend some time out of the wrap. Afterwards we walked to Montparnasse to see an art deco building and a statue of Balzac by Rodin. We took the bus back to Bastille and walked along St. Antoine to purchase some food for tomorrow's train ride to Amsterdam. After a quick stop at a fromager, boucher, fruit and vegetable stand, and the Jewish French bakery we stopped at a park to feed Ben and watch all the adorably dressed French children play. Although we were home by 6:00PM--all ready to get Ben to bed early--he decided he would just have a short nap and not fall asleep again until 9PM. Oy. I am thinking of this month like pregnancy--preparing me for the lack of sleep that will come with the six hour time change once we arrive in Philly.
Well, I don't know if we have internet access in Amsterdam so you may not hear from us for awhile. I guess to sum up our Paris adventure--food made it to number one of our list of favorite things about Paris and the Musee d'Orsay slid into the number two spot.
