Amsterdam Adventure: Day 1

Saturday afternoon was the PERFECT afternoon. It was an easy tram ride to our hotel and the room turned out to be twice as big as we expected. We are staying in the museum quarter, which is more quiet and more clean than downtown. We decided to walk to a restaurant that Josh had marked on our map (and passed a bagel place on the way which we noted for breakfast on Sunday). The cafe turned out to be not exactly what we wanted, but the restaurant across the street seemed good. We made reservations for that evening and continued our walk. We stopped at a children's bookstore and bought the fourth book in a series for Ben about the seasons. We now have Summer in Dutch, Winter in German, Spring in French, and Autumn in Swedish. We wandered around the canals taking a million pictures of the buildings in town. At six we returned to Bosboom and dined al fresco. It was delicious (and we were really glad because it was our last expensive meal out on this trip). Ben sat happily in his high chair while Josh and I oohed and ahhed over our meals and his beer. It was a late night for Ben, but he enjoyed watching the Amsterdam nightlife from his little spot.

Additional note: The green stuff on my appetizer is called salicornia. I enjoyed its flavor and texture.
