Uppsala Week 1

We arrived in Uppsala on the night of January 2, 2008. Henrik and Niclas picked us up at the airport and took us to our fabulous apartment. Josh immediately took a look at the map and went to find snacks while Jodi helped Ben get acquainted with his new bedroom.

The first week has been a bit frustrating--I think it was a little naive of us to think that Sweden would be easier to negotiate because Swedes speak English! Nonetheless, we have figured out the basics--set up a bank account, found the grocery store, and got in touch with Janet from Everything in English (a new business set up to help English speakers who move to Uppsala). Jodi is still getting the run around regarding Ben's vaccinations, but hopefully that will be settled soon. Josh even had a semla, Swedish meatballs, and some Swedish sweet bread (still not as good as his mom's in my opinion). Our stuff arrived intact from the Czech Republic. It's all put away in our new place, and it makes it feel a little bit more like our home.

Josh is enjoying his new job. Ben and Jodi have spent the days exploring Uppsala although we have yet to take pictures. I will do that soon. We also signed up for family swim classes which begin on January 20. Ben is busy teething and hates his new bath tub. We were surprised because he liked taking a tub with Josh so much in Vienna. Here is a picture of Ben's first day in the apartment.

Thanks for the update - wow, how Ben is growing! Please keep me in the loop, even though I've not been so good at responding on a regular basis. Think of you often tho...
