Paris Adventure: Day 1

We walked to the train station at sunrise with Ben still soundly asleep in the wrap. Yeah, sunrise in Uppsala this morning was 4:58AM. We had a short ride to the airport and waited patiently for our flight to Paris. Our flight was nice--not too crowded and the flight attendents LOVED Ben. When we arrived at CDG we quickly found our way to the RER ticket office, bought a ticket for the train to Paris and a weekly metro pass and off we went. Josh and his little computer were helpful in finding our hotel in the Marais. The front desk staff were very helpful and found us a room right away, even though it wasn't even noon. After a quick snack and some discussion about our afternoon plans, we went to 2 Bis to meet our friend Guillaume for lunch.

It was wonderful to see Guillaume--he had never met Ben--and we had a delicious Parisian lunch full of frites, brochettes au poulet and croque monsieur. Guillaume gave us some sightseeing tips and walked us to the Seine where we said goodbye. Then, the three of us walked around Paris unaided by a guidebook a la Eleanor Lavish from "A Room with a View."

We started at Notre Dame and were going to also go to St. Chapelle, but on the way we ran into many, many police officers in riot gear and heard people shouting so we thought we would take our infant somewhere a bit less exciting and go back another day. Instead we walked over Pont Neuf to the Louvre, the Tuileries garden, past the Comedie Francaise, the Palais Royal, Forum des Halles, the Centre Pompidou, through the Marais back to the hotel. Josh decided we needed a French snack along the way so we stopped at a sweet little bakery in Place des Petits Peres. Ben gave up on the sightseeing halfway through the Catherdral and had a long and luxurious nap in the wrap. So now, at 8:30PM, he finally is asleep and Josh and I are enjoying the view of the garden from our tiny kinchenette.

Josh was excited about posting pictures from the road, but apparently he is one cable short so we may need to wait until we get back to Sweden.

Bon nuit.

Thank you for the great travelogue/blog-- I am re-living Paris vicariously through you!! You have a MAJOR advantage of going there with your infant ALREADY accustomed to the time zone, or close to it... Enjoy! Don't forget les croissants... xo Chris
